Nanofertilizers in sativa oatmeal production

Published at: 08 November 2022

Quantification of nanofertilizers used in the intensive production of Sativa Oatmeal under greenhouse conditions.

The cultivation of sativa oatmeal was carried out in the greenhouse located in the facilities of the Universidad Industrial de Santander Sede Málaga, the processes and evaluation were developed in the Laboratory of Livestock and Agroforestry Reconversion of the headquarters. Researchers Laura Sanabria, Julián Botero and students Sergio Cáceres and Myriam Parra participated.

Considering population growth, the need to satisfy the food demand of all living beings and that agriculture emits greenhouse gases, a part of these corresponding to the use of fertilizers that additionally contaminate water sources and soils, it is necessary to look for alternatives to mitigate these effects and that in turn improve the efficiency of nutrient absorption.

For sustainable agriculture, nanotechnology is presented as an alternative since it improves the interaction between plants and nutrients.

Nanotechnology, nanofertilizers and fertilizers

A nanofertilizer is a product composed of nanoparticles used to improve the nutritional efficiency of plants. They emerge as a novel alternative in the field of agriculture, since through the generation of materials at a nanometric scale, physical and chemical properties that can be exploited can be modified.
