Biography

Graduated as an Agronomist in 1996 and a Master's in Animal Production in 1998, both from the National University of Mar del Plata (Argentina). In 2001 he was a fellow of the British Council, studying at the Macaulay Institute (UK). He obtained his doctorate in Agricultural Sciences in 2004 and was qualified to be a professor in the area "Crop production and pasture management" in 2012, both from the Technische Universität München (Germany). He is a Level 1 Researcher of the National System of Researchers (ANII, Uruguay) and supervisor of undergraduate and graduate students. He currently works on topics related to forage physiology, ecology and agronomy. He is director of the National Research Program on Pastures and Forages, National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA Uruguay). In this program he is generating technology for Uruguayan agroecosystems; with the objective of –based on quantitative scientific knowledge on the functioning of forage production systems- to promote the development of producers and support the design of public policies, designing productive, biodiverse, stable, efficient systems in the cycling of nutrients and with potential for sequestration of organic carbon in the soil.
